Bethany and Andrew Barnhardt

Andrew and Bethany Barnhardt are currently serving with the Globalscope campus ministry La Ruta in Montevideo, Uruguay.

They’re both graduates of Georgia Tech (Go Jackets!) and were active in the Christian Campus Fellowship (CCF). Bethany earned her degree in international marketing and developed a passion for helping others on a global scale. Andrew earned his degree in mechanical engineering and completed a year-long internship with CCF. Just recently married, they’re following their hearts and passion for serving others.

Why Uruguay?

Bethany spent a semester as an exchange student with La Ruta campus ministry and says she went out on a limb when she took on that adventure. But she found that speaking Spanish, cooking and cleaning, giving talks, singing, and connecting with students over coffee were all things she loved to do. All of her skills, talents, and passion came together while she was there, and she couldn’t be more excited to be heading back. 

While Bethany’s passion for the La Ruta ministry drew him in, Andrew also recognized this as a unique opportunity. Montevideo, while culturally leaning towards Catholicism, is largely populated by atheists. Andrew says the Georgia Tech CCF opened his eyes to people’s desire for connection and community. The city has several large universities where there’s a need for genuine friendship and support—a place where people can come and be themselves. Andrew volunteered in student ministry during his high school and college years and said that it fundamentally altered the course of his life. It opened his eyes to the impact that community can have and challenged him – his own capacity and the capacity of God through him--to bring that to other people.
